Dual Diagnosis! Patients with both a mood and a substance use disorder are very common, hard to diagnose, hard to treat and often experience very poor outcomes. Our second lecture for 2026 is on efforts to find novel drugs for treating dual-diagnosis disorders, in particular using glutamate- and GABA-based agents. That, of course, is a natural for MR spectroscopy, and our speaker has applied MRS and other MR methods intensively to the study of these conditions. So we may well see new imaging findings! Come to learn about dual diagnosis, come to ask questions, come to argue and advocate for your favorite theory, but do come!
Our speaker, Dr. James Prisciandaro, is a clinical psychologist specialized in treating dual diagnoses and a rigorous and accomplished avant-garde MRS researcher. His talk should have much to offer for students, clinicians and researchers intrigued by mood and/or substance use disorders.
